WIVES AND SISTERS

The tv show sisterWives on TLC is an interesting new lifestyle that i have been introduced to. Sisterwives is about open relationships of one man and 4 wives under one roof . Since all the sisterwives and their children are in the same house the viewers get to see how undercover jealously, kindness and lonliness becomes of the wives that are just left out and alone. There are different scenes when all the wives and the husbands collectively discuss the lonliness and work of being a sisterwife. And while these sisterwives are discussing the same pains, struggles and emotions openly, the husband is looking around and unaware of how his wives felt.

This reminds me of the film, “Raise the Red Latern”, in which an ancient asian emperor have mistresses or wives  as sexual objects and use them for their own talents to pleasure him socially, physically, mentally, and musically. And because of the jealousy and lonliness of his mistresses they all threaten and try to injure or even kill one another, and while this happends the emperor is unaware.

This gave  witness to me that things really havent changed all that much.

Couples Retreat (movie review)

This is my 2nd attempt trying to watch this film. The major detail that had my nerves going and my nails running on the chalk board was the stereotype of the movie. The noticeable stereotype that was depicted was the portrayal of the young black actress. She was portrayed as a uncontrollable, loud, ghetto female with pink highlights in her hair. I guess the director wanted to depict her as a comedic solo role in that film. She was the only high-pitched, loud actress that was depicted as such in the film. She was so annoying and unecessary in this movie that it was literally hard for me to get into the film. (She was the only main actress that had a comedic tone and possibly a comedic dialogue for a possible set up for laughter  from the audience or moviego’er).

I  question, What was the point of her character in this film? What was the director or writer trying to display to the audiences worldwide that would watch this film? What would they think about young black females ,if they were never exposed to one? Are we all young adult females loud and unecessary as she was depicted in this film?

BUT, ofcourse they would put his wife calm, cool and collective. But one thing that strikes me is the wife’s dialogue at the end of the film.

She informs her husband that while she was on a break she slept, had one night stands and partied and did whatever she wanted to do without him. And the younger female is portrayed as an active partier who may want to sleep around etc.   So.. in away are these two females some-what pretty much the same in (more-so) actions (sleeping around, partying , trying to live loose, having fun). I see a correlation between the two “different” roles in which they are somewhat the same by the young females (Trudy’s) actions, language and the wife’s (Jessica) testimony of playing around .
